Born
in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Chef Alex Tung has always had a
deep and intimate relationship with food. It was always a childhood
dream of his to be a chef and to open restaurants all around
the world. Food was an enormous part of his culture and family
life and this passion has transcended into his career. After
cooking in some of the top kitchens around the world, Alex has
now planted his roots in Vancouver and has landed behind the
stoves of Tapenade Bistro.
Alex’s formal culinary education was at the highly esteemed
New England Culinary Institute in Burlington, Vermont. His true
culinary education took place in top tier restaurants around
the world in such cities as New York, London, Boston, Toronto
and Vancouver. Having worked for such culinary giants as Jean-Georges
Vongerichten, Daniel Boulud and Christian Delouvrier, Alex’s
cooking pedigree is second to none. Alex has been involved in
numerous James Beard Foundation events, is a member of many
culinary organizations and stages at premier restaurants whenever
his schedule permits. Cooking is his true passion in life and
it shows through his cuisine and meticulous attention to detail
in the kitchen.
In each kitchen Alex has worked
in, he has found inspiration
in the surrounding environment. His determination to use indigenous
ingredients in his dishes adds to the authenticity of his cuisine.
His philosophy towards food is very clear; simple elegant food
cooked with proper technique and passion. These mantras will
no doubt follow him into the kitchen at Tapenade Bistro as its
Executive Chef. |
